According to the world statistics the number of crimes committed by women is rising in recent years, and this shocking trend attracts more and more public attention. History shows that women have always had a major role in criminal activities, which is why their names are associated with some of the worst crimes ever committed. Women are called the fairer sex, the weaker sex, but when they deviate from the right path and commit crimes peculiar to men, then they are condemned not only because of their criminal act, but also because they are women. Evil and cruel actions are generally attributed to men, but these women certainly proved that evil deeds are not limited to just one sex. Belle Gunness

Belle Gunness is one of the cruelest female serial killers in American history. She had murdered both her husbands, all of her children, friends, her boyfriends, and admirers. Reportedly, the number of her victims is up to 40, although the police found evidence only for the murder of 33 people. Belle Gunness was a cold, selfish woman who killed for money, mostly life insurance policies or cash. However, she was never caught or charged with any crimes because after a fire at her home, she fled and left the country.

Dorothea Puente

In her younger days, Dorothea Puente drugged people, stole from them, ran a brothel and spent some time in jail. After she moved to Sacramento, she started up a boarding house where she took to people in need. Even though, she was praised for her hospitality and kindness, she also had a dark side. She murdered 25 sick and troubled elderly men. They were trapped, killed and buried in the courtyard. Her motives for the murders were also monetary. She continued to forge their Social Security checks and spent their money on makeup, clothes, and plastic surgery.

Beverly Allitt

Beverly Allitt dubbed the “Angel of Death”, worked as a pediatric nurse at Grantham and Kesteven Hospital in the UK. For no apparent reason, she murdered four children, attempted to murder three and injured six more. She killed the children by injecting them with lethal doses of insulin and air bubbles. All of these deaths took place within the space of just two months.

Irma Grese

Irma Grese was a guard at the Ravensbrück, Auschwitz, and Bergen-Belsen concentration camps during World War II. This Nazi woman tortured, sexually abused and killed Jewish women who were more beautiful than her. She also had the cruel role of selecting prisoners for the gas chambers. Irma believed that she would have a good career in the movies once Germany won World War II. However, she never lived long enough to fulfill her dream, because she was hanged for her crimes in 1945, at the young age of 22. Irma Grese is one of the cruelest Nazis and became known as the “Beautiful Beast” and the “Beast of Belsen”.

Rosemary West

Rosemary West is also one of the most recognizable terrifying women in history. She formed an infamous torturing and killing partnership with her husband Fred, during the 1970s. Together, they have kidnaped, tortured, raped and killed young women and girls. Then they buried their bodies under their house. This included one of their own daughters as well as one of her husband daughters from the previous relationship. It is known that they killed 10 women, although there are rumors that the number of their victims is larger.

Queen Mary I

Queen Mary I of England is known for the execution of hundreds of Protestant leaders. Although, she is not officially a “criminal”, the Catholic queen, named Bloody Mary certainly deserves her place among the cruelest women of all time. Trying to restore Catholicism in England after the death of her brother Edward VI, she burned hundreds of Protestants. Hundreds of thousands of Protestants left England in order to survive until her death in 1558. Mary’s hopes for a Catholic England died with her, because her sister Elizabeth I returned England to the Protestant faith, immediately after her death.

Griselda Blanco

Griselda Blanco, known as the infamous cocaine godmother or La Madrina is one of the cruelest criminals of our time. She has kidnaped and murdered children at the age of 11, became a prostitute at the age of 12 and then she became a drug lord. She ran the cocaine trade with murderous force in New York and Miami during the 1970s and 1980s. Griselda was known for her sociopathic tendencies and extravagant jewelry and art collections. It is believed that she ordered more than 200 murders in Miami. She openly spoke about her bisexuality and allegedly killed three husbands. Griselda was killed in a drive-by shooting in 2012.
